It was at about this time last year when I got the idea for my book, The Secret Power Beneath. I was walking in the snowy woods with my daughter and suddenly had the thought that I might write a book. I’m not sure what it was about that time and place that gave me the urge, but it was a resolve that I decided to stick to. I only had the vaguest notion about what the subject should be — it would feature an underground world, and an advanced civilization based on a new form of energy technology. I have long been interested in alternative and advanced energy technologies, and felt this would be an interesting topic to explore in a work of fiction.
My novel, The Secret Power Beneath, envisions a subterranean society which has developed around a limitless source of energy — and looks at not only the technological, but social and political implications of such an invention — not all are positive. Like any technology, it can be used for good and ill.
Interestingly, the conception of this novel was started just before I became aware of Andrea Rossi’s work in the field of cold fusion/LENR, and his E-Cat invention. In January of 2011, Andrea Rossi and Sergio Focardi held a press conference in which the Energy Catalyzer (E-Cat) was introduced and demonstrated.
My interest in this very promising and potentially world-changing invention was so great that I launched another writing project – E-Cat World — a blog dedicated to news, discussion and analysis of this technology. So in a number of ways, the novel and the blog are related. The book is fiction, of course, but it explores themes and possibilities that I think could be not too far fetched if a new and vastly superior form of energy was available to the human race.
So I hope you will enjoy both, or either of my writing projects — and I hope that 2012 might turn out to be a year in which the future of humanity becomes brighter for advances in energy technology that can benefit everyone.
